In February, I called attention to an open letter from the Provosts of the Big Ten (well, eleven) universities calling for open (that is to say, free) access to all published research that is supported by federal money. Today, much of that research is published in journals that can only be accessed via pricey subscriptions — when the research in question has already been paid for by taxpayers.
This week you can sign an online petition to the Obama administration calling for such open access. The petition needs at least 25,000 signatures, and its already well over half the way there. Every signature counts, so add yours, too.
