Our Far-Flung Alumni: Jewell Spears

Jewell Spears, native of Richmond (IN), was the first African-American promoted to director of nursing at Reid Memorial Hospital in 1977.  A 1957 graduate of Earlham, she is honored today in the Palladium-Item’s series honoring local figures in Black history.

She also served on Earlham’s Board of Trustees.
