The Health of the Humanities, A Symposium

March 30, 2011

The symposium was actually entitled “The Future of the Humanities.”  It was cosponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges and SAIS/Johns Hopkins University.  Gathered were 150 to 200 humanities scholars along with a few reporters and folks from government agencies that connect with the Humanities such as NEH, NEA and IMLS.

The Inside Higher Education account is here. The Chronicle of Higher Education account is here.  Neither does a particularly good job of conveying the richness of the day — though that would have been hard.  A webcast of the day will soon be available on the CIC website.

I was one of the speakers at the event.  My remarks, entitled “Hobbes, or, “We the People””are here.
