Another ROTC Perspective

March 8, 2011

I am reminded that back in December, the former Washington Posdt columnist Colman McCarthy wrote an op-ed piece in which he voiced, and powerfully, another kind of case against a college or university having an ROTC chapter: that the institution of higher education might see ROTC as inconsistent with its mission.

He names several Quaker colleges (Earlham, Guilford, George Fox) and some others as examples.  Indeed.  That is why Earlham doesn’t have an ROTC unit.  We are a Quaker College, and one of the most important Quaker testimonies is a leading to seek peace with all your heart and all your might, simply saying no to participation in war.
