Will the sun shine?

May 4, 2010

The view out my office window this Tuesday morning shows the old Observatory, flowering trees, and a brilliant blue sky.  It couldn’t be a lovelier day.  But what will we have for weather on Saturday?  It’s really the only day that matters in the near future because it’s Commencement day.  We’ll have Baccalaureate in the morning and Commencement proper in the afternoon.

If the weather is nice, we’ll do that outside on Chase stage, a natural ampitheatre in the center of campus in which we can sit several thousand people who will want to attend.  If the weather isn’t nice, we will have to be indoors, in the Athletics/Wellness Center where we can only accommodate about 1000.

Today, the forecast is showing showers on Thursday and Friday, and clear skies on Saturday, but with a high of only 60 degrees.  Is that nice enough?  Can we trust that forecast?  With Bonita Washington-Lacey, our Associate Dean/Registrar and Empressario of Commencement, I’ll be nervously watching the weather these next few days.
