I was wondering if you ever considered changing the structure of
your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.

But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people
could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot
of text for only having one or two pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?

Liz — Very good to hear from you, and I hope we have more occasions to talk.
I’ve restored the link to the Covenant, but this link is to a personal copy. There is no longer a link to the Covenant on the Earlham website. Why might that be? Perhaps it is because of the schism that has recently torn apart Indiana Yearly Meeting. (I’ve written a good deal about this schism on my Quaker blog, River View Friend (riverviewfriend.wordpress.com). Or perhaps it is because of a lessened regard t Earlham for its relationship to the Religious Society of Friends. Or perhaps it is simply a goof in maintaining a complex website. I simply do not know.

Doug-- After meeting you at Iowa Yearly Meeting (Conservative)'s Midyear Meeting (Fourth Month 2013), I went looking for you online and came across your blog. Granted, this piece is from 2011 and I remember reading the NYTimes article... Mostly I'm leaving this comment to say I was hoping to read the "covenant" to which you refer, but the link doesn't work and I wanted you to have ask if you might be able to fix it. It has been my understanding that the derivation of Clerk comes from the English context of a “secretary,” that is one who transcribes the words/actions of an individual or group. In Friends usage this meant transcribing the “leadings of the Spirit” in the words/action of a “Meeting.” However, the Clerk was usually chosen after much experience in “listening” to the individual, group, and Spirit. Thus the “transcribing” rather than just “reporting.”
